An antidote to the January blues, join us for this edition of Seed TV with Holly Silvester, our Future Resilience Seed Coordinator. Holly will be sharing stories from her Churchill Fellowship travels where she visited the thriving seed network of the Pacific Northwest of the US & Canada.

Holly spent 4 months last summer visiting many of the stake holders in this network exploring how an alternative structure: a farmer-led, collaborative and less restricted approach to seed production can facilitate the creation of a more resilient and diverse seed system. Holly travelled through Oregon, Washington State and into B.C, visiting many influential and pioneering folks in the seed network, including plant breeders Frank Morton and Carol Deppe, the Organic Seed Alliance and seed companies Adaptive Seeds and Uprising Seeds, amongst many others.

In this session Holly will be sharing tales and reflections from her travels, shining a light on and celebrating this incredibly influential seed movement.

Speaker

Holly works part time for the Seed Sovereignty Programme as Future Resilience Seed Coordinator, facilitating the programme’s Crowd Breeding Project and inspiring others to explore the radical possibilities of seed. Alongside this work, she is also a commercial vegetable and seed grower, and has worked at Trill Farm Garden and Oxton Organics. Before embarking on her journey into agroecological farming, Holly trained in formal horticulture, and has a background in urban community growing.
